A team of researchers and conservators

Appearances can be deceiving. This is not a record of chaos – I cannot describe it otherwise – in my studio, but rather a workshop organised for a team of researchers and conservators. A research project into the painting techniques of Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski has begun. Dr Magdalena Sitkiewicz and Adam Ciupa from the Department of Painting Technologies and Techniques at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, will examine eight of the artist’s paintings. The research will result in a body of knowledge and a database on the materials and painting media used by Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski: types of canvas, pigments, fillers, dyes, varnishes, etc. The research is non-invasive.
