Bonawentura Klembowski (1795–1888), Portrait of Jan Bohowicz

Bonawentura Klembowski (c. 1795, near Krzemieniec – 1888, Krzemieniec), Portrait of Jan Bohowicz, inspector of the Vilnius University estates, 1827–1829, pastel on paper, 32 x 25 cm.

Such artistic and biographical gems are hidden away in the storerooms of the National Museum in Warsaw. The painting was acquired for the collection (when?) from Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski.

His collection of paintings is a subject worthy of further research. It included, amongst other works, a beautiful ‘zopf’ by Maksymilian Gierymski.

The portrait of Jan Bohowicz is a work worthy of attention, and is mentioned in the relevant literature.
