Photographs by Karol Wierusz-Kowalski

A brief glimpse into the photographic legacy of Karol Wierusz-Kowalski. The most important photograph is the one of the painter with his palette, sitting in front of a painting he’s been working on, but I think the collection as a whole might hold a few pleasant surprises, if only we could work out who’s who.

Who is the distinguished-looking man with the moustache? His full name appears on the back of the photograph: Lucjan Kurnatowski (if I’ve read it correctly). And is the young woman of exotic beauty a model? Or perhaps a member of the family?

Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski’s family photographs hold just as many secrets. It’s worth having a rummage (a plea to his descendants) through your archives – perhaps you’ll find the answers to many questions.
